This week we are learning about Cain and Abel. I mainly focused on their occupations and didn't really get in to God accepting Abel's sacrifices and rejecting Cain's. We can cover that the next time we go through history. Janelle glued torn cotton balls on a sheep as we talked about Abel being a shepherd.
We learned about Cain being a farmer and the kids enjoyed gluing pom-poms on paper to make fruits and vegetables.
Another great small motor skill activity.
This week we were in Asia. All of the books that I choose were based in China. I know that there are several different cultures based in Asia, but choose one to focus our reading on one. We also learned how to count to ten in Mandarin and the Chinese characters for love and I love you. I also found a website where you can see your own name in Chinese characters. We watched some videos on how to wear a Sari and how to put on a Kimono.
Our servant for the week was a firefighters. I tried to focus on fire safety, so we watched some videos on how to stop, drop and roll. And also how to call 911 in an emergency. I realized that Janelle did not know her address so we worked on that as well. We roll played a few times calling 911 and she enjoyed that. This should be something that we go over at least once a month to make sure she is confidant in calling in an emergency.
We also read about Johnny Appleseed, how he planted apple trees for all the pioneers settling the west.
